Fall 2019

Transience

The Gauja national park shines with a richness in nature, colors and history along the riversides of the Gauja River, in Northern Latvia. To celebrate its 45th anniversary, the park will construct a symbolic entrance to welcome the flow of nature-goers and sport enthusiasts. This symbolic entrance will be a footbridge, celebrating the heritage of the region, serving visitors and increasing the international visibility of the park through innovative and future-proof construction.

Transience explores the role of a bridge that connects the park with its surroundings by encouraging a mindful and celebratory passage. At the interface between nature the town, the footbridge catalyzes the transition between two distinct environments. An awareness of this change not only amplifies first contact with the park but also brings attention to the bridge itself, an agent of quiet transformation.
